In this project, I replaced the original 1-HP 3-phase 230 VAC electric spindle motor on aBridgeport machine with a 3/4-HP DC drive motor.

That is why I started considering the single ph conversion while at it.... Half the price. The DC swap might be more work than an orig replacement... But there do appear to be advantages with full torque at low rpm.
